Anyone who knows me knows that one of my favorite hobbies is eating. I love eating, I love cooking, I love trying new things, all things involved in food consumption sign me up for.
I also prefer to eat relatively healthfully, apart from the occasional binge session. And since this is the eco-fab life, snacking eco-friendly is a must.
Here is a list of 3 products that you’ll find in my fridge (or freezer) on any given day that are from companies who are committed to doing business the right way:
MaraNatha Almond Butter
This company is committed to buying its products only from environmentally friendly growers. But when I first saw that it contained palm oil, my mental red flags went up. (Find out why: Palm Oil )
After a bit of research, I discovered that in 2013 the company that owns MaraNatha sat at Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil and committed to having all of their palm oil RSPO certified. This means that they’re palm oil is having less impact on local species where palm oil is grown, which is by my terms, eco-fabulous and very socially responsible. (see for yourself: RSPO Social Responsibility)
This company offers a wide variety of options that are delicious in all kinds of ways. My favorite is almond butter on gluten-free rice cakes, and I promise it isn’t as high maintenance as it sounds. Read about MaraNatha and their foodie mission here: About MaraNatha
Simply 7 BBQ Quinoa Chips
Ok, not that this is recommended in any capacity but I have self-control problems. These chips are so delicious that I will eat a whole bag in one sitting. I crack open a bag at work, start answering e-mails and before I know it, they’re gone.
Simply 7 is a great company that operates by 7 core principles (hence the name). They are dedicated to clean ingredients, no added preservatives, no trans fats or cholesterol, no artificial colors or flavors, gluten free, simple ingredients, and delicious taste. Also a bonus, these chips are made in the good ole’ USA (Houston, Texas to be exact). Check them out: About Simply 7
They have tons of different flavors and products that all stand by the same principles. Go try some, just don’t get carried away like I usually do, but if you do at least you know you’re supporting an eco-fabulous company.
Ben & Jerrys Mint Chocoalte Cookie Ice Cream
This one isn’t exactly healthy, but unhealthy foods are the key to living a balanced life. I am an ice cream fanatic and I have spent my fair share of time and calories consuming and judging different ice creams. When I found out about Ben & Jerrys mission to support eco-friendly practices and maintain their social responsibility, I was sold.
They do not use Artifical Growth Hormone, they support family farmers in keeping their land, they protest oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and they are fair trade certified. Basically if Ben & Jerrys was a man, I would already be married. Check them out: The Marriage of Ben & Jerry
Whether your snacks are healthy or not so healthy, you always have the choice of the companies you choose to support. By doing a little bit of research, you can make an impact in your food-buying decisions.
No one ever regretted choosing the eco-fabulous life.
