In terms of hunting, the Seahawk is no loser.

If you’re anything like me, then you dozed off during the first two quarters of the game last night and then woke up just long enough to watch Katy Perry kill it at halftime. After praising the ground that Katy Perry walks on, you went to bed. You woke up this morning, turned on the news to be an informed citizen and had to listen to 20 minutes of analytic’s about why the Seattle Seahawks lost. The only concerning thought I had during this whole ordeal was, “wait, is the Seahawk a real thing?”. Lo and Behold, it is! The seahawk is more commonly known as an Osprey!

The osprey is one smart, and badass bird. These guys hunt fish, which make up about 99% of their diet. They will circle around a body of water and then dive bomb down the the water surface and pluck out a fish. The osprey is even smart enough to orient the fish so it is head-first to streamline it, to make flying with it not so difficult. Awesome video can be found courtesy of BBC:

Osprey are often confused with bald eagles, and they often occupy the same territory and fight for food. Osprey were also affected by DDT in the 1950’s, just like bald eagles. The DDT made their eggs very thin and fragile which resulted in a high mortality rate among developing offspring. The populations of both animals has bounced back, and are doing fairly well. Whether you’re a Seahawks fan or a Patriot fan, make sure you keep an eye out for these awesome birds next time you are around a watery habitat!
